As female leaders of organizations working to advance women in our community, it’s certainly been a thrill to watch the US Women’s Soccer Team dominate at the World Cup. The victory also increased awareness and highlighted the pay disparity these exceptional athletes face in comparison to their male counterparts. The world is paying attention to this gender gap and demanding change.
Denver hosts the Colorado Classic, as part of the Women’s Pro Cycling Tour
In Colorado, we have an exciting upcoming opportunity to not only support best-in-class female athletes, but also to highlight the lack of equity that is still present for women in sports and for women in business. The 2019 Colorado Classic, taking place August 22 – 25, will be the only stand-alone women’s professional stage race in North America on the UCI calendar. In addition to producing a world-class event that celebrates and supports female athletes, the race also offers a platform to highlight the need for equity in support of all women in sports and in business.
The race is also the first to offer increased prize money and unprecedented support and media exposure to the female cyclists. This is more than a race, it’s a movement we encourage you to join.
On July 17th – we joined with the Colorado Classic and other leaders in the business, civic and athletic communities to “Take the Pledge” for equity in women’s pro cycling. People around the world will show their support by signing this pledge and sharing it on their social media platforms.
Here’s how you can participate…

I just pledged for equity in pro women’s cycling. There is a gross disparity. Less pay. Less TV. Less opportunity. Let’s close the gender gap. Show your support by taking the Pledge.bit.ly/EquityPledge. Together #WeRide #ColoradoClassicPro
We hope you will join us in supporting the Colorado Classic and raising awareness for pay equity in Women’s Pro Cycling. More information about the Colorado Classic can be found here: www.coloradoclassic.com.
