Motivational Interviewing for Healthcare Professionals

“Are your patients actively involved in their own care? Is your current healthcare interviewing technique empowering them? To be effective, providers need to recognize their patients’ readiness, respond to both sides of their ambivalence and support motivation for change. Motivational Interviewing (MI), an evidence-based approach to eliciting powerful health behavior change, teaches you how to incorporate these tactics into your care management to improve health outcomes.

In this workshop you will:
-Learn how to adopt appropriate attitudes and behaviors to
facilitate behavior change
-Identify methods people employ to change behavior and why traditional methods are no longer effective
-Recognize self-motivational statements made by patients and respond in a manner that increases their “change talk”
-Be able to assess patients’ readiness for health behavior change and contrast techniques that are effective with patients at different levels of readiness”
