Social Media Fuels The Denver Cupcake Truck Part 1 – How we got started

By Denon Moore, CWCC Member

Sure a cute old truck named Clementine and some really delicious cupcakes would sell to a crowd, but how does one produce that crowd? Producing that crowd, audience, fan base, clientele is a daunting task, but not nearly as pain staking as in decades past. Thanks to Facebook, Twitter, Yelp, and Foursquare (to name a few) any business owner can generate followers. Catching them and keeping them is the trick.

The Denver Cupcake Truck was developed/designed around the use of social media, specifically Facebook and Twitter. It is obvious in our socially driven society that a surviving business must have a social media plan.  We used Facebook and Twitter to launch the Denver Cupcake Truck’s debut. It was by word of mouth to our fans and current customers at Cake Crumbs Bakery that we created an “exciting buzz” before its launch. We asked our friends, family, and current customers to spread the word and keep an eye on Facebook for some exciting news. For nearly a month we built up the excitement and anticipation. We had everyone sitting on the edge of their seats.

Sitting on the edge of their seats, you ask? We hooked everyone by telling them they were about to witness something really exciting and new to Denver. It was true, and they couldn’t wait to see what it was going to be. We kept our pre-launch fans interested by constant chatter of the new “secret”. It was almost a game for everyone, a game that they were excited to be a part of.

So, what after this spectacular debut? We kept our fans guessing and buzzing. We created this game of cat and mouse, as we like to call it. A daily routine for our fans, a habit of looking at Facebook to see where this new spectacle could be found and what the “mystery” flavor would be that day. This turned into a fun event and conversation for The Denver Cupcake Truck fans; it took many minds off daily stresses. For a short moment or an afternoon, we created a positive outlet for many.  Find out exactly how we did this and continue to do this in part two of this article to be published here tomorrow.
